Alternative press expected great things from CONGRATULATIONS for some time now, including them on the lists of the best February 2019 and still in April 2021. After more than two years of waiting, the group’s first album ushers in a new era.
Beginning with a cacophony of slow distortion, the album opens with “Carpe Diem“and explodes in the heavy” Ignite “. The rest of Dear Universe presents all the ingredients of a well-balanced, pop-inspired band acoustic from tracks such as “You Got This” to stripped down denominational numbers such as “Highs & Lows”. Complete with abrasive tips sprinkled all over the place, the drive retains its edge while providing listeners with an emotionally seamless experience.
While Dear Universe may be the group’s first feature film, they are far from newcomers on the scene. Their fourth gig as a group was in the Orlando native’s hometown. “We approached this record as songwriters for the first time”, guitarist Cory nicolas said in a press release. “We want to be a band that can fit in anywhere and do a variety of songs that resonate with all kinds of people.”
Included on Dear Universe is “Weatherâ, For which they released a video in June 2021. According to the group, the song innovates.
âWhat’s really amazing about ‘The Weather’ is that we feel like it’s one of those songs that is so different and yet so familiar,â they say. âThrough the synths and production elements dotted across the hooks of the Campfire Choir, we wanted each section to feel like it was preparing for this monumental moment while also showcasing its personality.
“The song is about emotional trauma,” they continue. âBut we didn’t want to use the old ‘Oh, she hurt me’ imagery like we’ve done a thousand times. That’s when we came up with the idea of ââusing actual seasons instead of girl’s names. It’s almost like we’re giving Weather a personality, so it’s also the smartest song we’ve ever written.

The album includes tracks from their previous EPs, but it remains refreshingly original in its content. For fans of well-produced instruments, clear vocal harmonization and punchy breaks, FELICITY is a band not to be missed.
