emerging star of the Indian EV universe

This decision aims to create a strong ecosystem for the development of electric vehicles while encouraging R&D. FAME has also served as a model for various states in the development of their subsidy programs for the promotion of electric vehicles. Our main focus for now remains the launch of our high-speed scooters. Mr. Mayank Jain, Co-Founder and Director, Crayon Motors share more ideas on the same topic.

How has Crayon Motors grown over the period? Do you think the EV market has grown this fiscal year? How many dealerships do you currently have? What benefits do you get with the FAME II policy?

Crayon Motors has established itself as a company that offers products that are easy to use, trouble free and low maintenance over time. Each of our scooters, which have several distinct features, are custom built for Indian roads, weather conditions and the most basic requirements. Our current low speed/city scooters are not eligible for FAME – 2 programs. However, our products are pending and will be available soon. Since these products are designed, developed and manufactured in India, they are eligible for FAME-II grants. Crayon products are widely accepted across India. Although we focus more on the north, we are working to expand our network to become a PAN India organization.

The Fame India program is definitely a step towards localizing the entire supply chain. Incentivize those who manufacture in India to help reduce the initial cost of owning a vehicle. This decision aims to create a strong ecosystem for the development of electric vehicles while encouraging R&D. FAME has also served as a model for various states in the development of their subsidy programs for the promotion of electric vehicles.

What advanced technology has been used to meet the aspirations of the electric mobility industry?

Although India’s electric vehicle industry is one of the fastest growing, it is still in its infancy. With several partnerships and collaborations, the industry will see several technological changes that will fuel the growth and aspirations of the industry. Many new solutions and products will be introduced in the coming years. The introduction of connected electric vehicles and new battery standards will usher in the next cycle of growth.

What are your best-selling products?

We have different products for different types of customers. Our scooters are built with Indian road and weather conditions in mind. This is one of the main reasons why it has been so widely accepted in such a short time. Zeez+ and Envy+ are two of our most popular scooter models.

Your opinion on EV policies by the government.

The government has the ability to drive the adoption of electric vehicles in India, and the policies that have been announced/developed are moving in that direction. The policies target both the national and state level. State policies have defined a good mix of demand-side incentives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in their respective regions.

The electric vehicle trend in India is positive, but it needs acceleration and a framework that is both industry and customer centric. Acceleration can be achieved through increased financial investment and more diligent policy implementation. That said, the ease of retail financing can help propel electric vehicles forward.

What can customers expect from Crayon Motors, the next step?

Our main focus for now remains the launch of our high-speed scooters. We plan to launch four distinct products this fiscal year. The entire product line is currently undergoing trials, testing and approvals. We are also working on the development of our own transmissions. This is a priority area because if the running gear is suitable for Indian roads, it then guarantees the longevity and better efficiency of the battery of the electric vehicle. We believe that a robust powertrain will play a key role in ensuring the success of electric vehicles in India. Motorcycles are also in the anvil but not in this exercise.
