In recent years, Netflix subscribers have discovered a range of original Christmas movies added to their libraries, many of them becoming some of the platform’s most popular titles.
And, starting with the Christmas Legacy of 2017, many films exist in their own garland-covered “Netflix Christmas Cinematic Universe”, with eagle-eyed viewers spotting stars, places, themes and themes. recurring characters – plus many other fun crossovers and ‘Easter Eggs’.
Is this character really watching one of Netflix’s other Christmas movies on TV? Is the Belgravian royal family in The Princess Switch the same family that appears in A Christmas Prince? Is the Aldovian tree ornament in The Knight Before Christmas the same one that is a major plot point in A Christmas Prince? Does it even make sense without time traveling? How many Vanessa Hudgens are there exactly?
These are just a few of the questions that may or may not be answered by a festive waking frenzy.
So here are a dozen (or 18 if you include the sequels) of movies to enjoy in December – one for each of the 12 days of Christmas.

The first film in Netflix’s Christmas Cinematic Universe, A Christmas Legacy stars romantic comedy favorite Andie MacDowell alongside Eliza Taylor and Jake Lacy. It tells the story of socialite Ellen who seeks to inherit her father’s fortune but must first visit her hometown and learn the value of hard work and helping others.

A Christmas Prince is a fairytale romance set in the fictional land of Aldovia. A young aspiring journalist is sent to the recurring European kingdom to get the scoop on a dashing prince who is about to be king. You might guess what happens next. If you like it, there are also the other parts of the trilogy – The Royal Wedding and The Royal Baby for you to feast on.

Starring Vanessa Hudgens as a down-to-earth Chicago pastry chef and future princess, The Princess Switch is an updated version of The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain. When the two find they are alike, they hatch a clever plan to switch places and experience each other’s lives. Caper turned out to be so successful that two more films were made – Switched Again and Romancing the Star – both with plotlines remarkably similar to the first in the trilogy.

One of Netflix’s most sophisticated party offerings, The Holiday Calendar’s plot revolves around the titular magical antiquity whose doors refuse to open until the corresponding day or advent. Photographer Abby has inherited her grandmother’s curiosity and notices that the images revealed have parallels with her life and seem to point her towards love.
