The Cars The franchise features some of Pixar’s most financially successful films and has spawned a mountain of merchandise, toys, and tie-ins. But that’s not all Cars franchise has produced. It’s also created a mountain of fan theories that question why the world is only populated by sentient cars, and today Reddit is debating a new fan theory that asks how bad Lightning McQueen’s world is. similar to ours.

In a thread titled “The Cars universe had a hostage crisis in Iran in 1979”. Reddit user u/shant_jan notes that the character Tony Trihull is based on the USS Independence LCS-2. The real-world USS Independence LCS-2 was built to patrol Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf. U/shant_jan notes that this means:

“The Cars CIA overthrew the Cars Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed the Cars Shah, resulting in an Iranian Cars revolution and hostility between the US Cars and the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

This notion has proven popular, with many other Reddit users jumping into the thread to suggest their own fan theories using similar logic. One of the most popular talking points was the Pope Pinion IV, a car that is also the Pope. One user pointed out that the universe has “a Cars Pope involving a Car Jesus”. Another user added to this, pointing out that “Cars pope also has cross symbolism which implies that the car Jesus was also crucified” ⏤ a fascinating concept to ponder.

Another goes even further by noting that Pope Pinion IV is transported in a car that resembles the real-world Popemobile. The existence of this popemobile means that “there was an assassination attempt against the Pope as in our timeline”.

Of course, some users have taken this to logical extremes, asking if the Cars the universe experienced World War II. However, users pointed out that in the Cars spin-off movie Airplanes, a WW2 documentary is shown, suggesting that this event is canon for the Cars’ universe without the need for fan theories.

Another user realized that this is also technically confirmed in the original Cars. The message has since changed, but originally it read: “Now that I think about it, the fact that the first Cars The film had an old jeep, originally created because of World War II, was already a gift.

It’s not just wars either. It seems that many other cultural events took place in the Cars universe. Another user points out the existence of Fillmore, the VW bus implies “there was definitely an anti-Cars war movement at that time. maybe even a Cars Woodstock and Altamont music festival.

Another notes that the existence of a British Royal Prince car has slightly dark implications if their life is a mirror of the human they are clearly inspired by.

Of course, many took this opportunity to unleash a torrent of puns on historical events, showing that you can fit car-themed words into any sentence.

Cars and its two sequels are available to stream on Disney Plus with a wide variety of fun spin-off features.
